The Holy Life

The whole of the holy life is good friends. -Buddha

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. -John 15:15

Friendship, I believe,  as Dr. Bernard Cooke writes, is the highest sacrament. It is in relationship with God, Self and others that we experience divine presence.

Catholic Worker life is answering the call to be friends, as Jesus shows us in Scripture. It is through friendship that we begin to truely know God. We must love like Jesus, in word and example, to all those we encounter. And it is in those encounters that others encounter Christ and that we encounter Christ in each other.  It is that love that sparks the divine and invites us into a deeper relationship with God, Self and others.

And who wouldn’t want to love and be loved?
